Life of Persephone

This is my submission for GameDev.tv Game Jam 2023 where the theme was "Life in 2 Dimensions".

Plot

You are goddess of spring and queen of the Underworld Persephone. You are forced to live in the underworld for half of the year but love farming and growing fruits and vegetables. You would like to grow delicious produce for your husband, the king of the Underworld Hades.

With the help of your mother, the goddess of agriculture Demeter, you are able to grow something during your time in the Overworld  which you can bring down to the Underworld.

Controls

The controls are that of a typical FPS (First-Person Shooter):

• Use WASD to move
• Move the mouse to turn your head
• Use E to interact with the produce and the NCPs (Non-Player Capsules)

Walk through the portals to move between the Overworld and Underworld.

You can pick up produce and sell to Hades. You can also buy seeds from Demeter. Unfortunately, you can not plant the seeds and grow the produce so it is but a mere trading game at this stage.

What I Learned

The is unfinished and was broken at the time of submission. It is no longer broken but it is unfinished.

I learned a lot about scope and how to keep it small during this, my very first game jam.

I also learned that it is better to use a proven, working version of a game engine rather than the latest one. Some of the assets I tried to use were not compatible with the latest version of Unity and a lot of time was wasted trying to make a circle fit in a square hole.
